A short, safe pre-call checklist that helps get a faster, more accurate answer when you call for truck or trailer repair.
None of this replaces a real diagnosis, but a few minutes of safe observation before you call can turn a vague "it's acting weird" into specific information that gets you a faster, more accurate answer.
1. Warning lights and gauges
Note exactly which warning lights are on, and if there's a gauge reading (air pressure, temperature, voltage) that looks off, note the actual number rather than just "low" or "high." Specific numbers help narrow things down fast.
2. What changed right before the problem started
Did you just refuel? Just cross rough road? Just sit parked overnight in cold weather? The event immediately before a problem shows up is often the single most useful clue in the whole conversation.
3. Sounds, smells, and visible leaks
A hissing sound, a burning smell, a puddle or drip under the truck, or smoke from a specific area are all things worth noting precisely — which side, which axle, front or back — rather than just "something smells bad."
The other two: air pressure behavior and whether it can move safely
Round out the list with how the air system is behaving (slow build, fast loss, normal) and a clear, honest answer on whether the truck or trailer can move safely under its own power. Call #1 Taz with all five and you'll get a much faster read on whether it's a mobile fix, a shop visit, or a tow-in.
